A preventive-maintenance checklist should be built from the OEM manual and your machine’s duty cycle. Generic checks are useful, but the machine-specific interval always takes priority.
Daily / shift checks
- Abnormal noise, vibration, leaks or alarms.
- Coolant/lubricant levels where operator-accessible.
- Air pressure and visible hose condition.
- Chip accumulation and cleanliness of critical areas.
- Safety doors/interlocks and emergency controls.
Weekly checks
Depending on machine type, inspect coolant concentration/condition, filters/screens, air-regulator condition, drain moisture, check toolholders and inspect easily accessible cables/hoses.
Monthly / scheduled checks
Review lubrication reservoir level, way covers/wipers, electrical cabinet filters, spindle taper condition, tool changer condition, coolant tank contamination and alignment indicators where part quality suggests drift.
Use trend data
Preventive maintenance improves when the checklist records actual values: coolant concentration, pressures, temperatures, vibration observations, repeatability checks and dates. Trend changes can show deterioration before failure.
Safety boundary
Do not open energized electrical systems, bypass interlocks or perform service work outside your competence. Lockout/tagout and OEM procedures apply for maintenance tasks requiring access to hazardous energy.
